Finance Director

Reports To:Tribal CouncilSalary: DOEPOSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for the management, oversight, and administration of Picuris Pueblos accounting, finance, payroll, and tax functions. Advises leadership on financial management and strategic planning. Develops, modifies, and enforces accounting processes and procedures, as well as safeguards organizations' assets by implementing internal controls.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of professional, technical support, and operational staff as it pertains to the finance department; recommends selection of accounting staff; trains staff and provides for their professional development; administers discipline as required; conducts performance evaluations.Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the department.Oversees and manages the daily operations of the Pueblos accounting, finance, and payroll and ensures timely month-end closing.Manages cash, budgeting, compliance, internal controls, audits, investments, and financial and strategic planning.Advises leadership on financial management and strategic planning issues and initiatives. Analyze and review statements, budgets, grants, contracts, and cash flow; provide data-based information for decision-making purposes.Develops short and long-term investment policies for operating cash requirements and growth.Develops and analyzes financial reports; reviews with directors and managers monthly. Assists directors and managers in developing, modifying, and monitoring program budgets.Presents financial reports to the council quarterly. Makes presentations to the Tribal Council regarding departmental activities and issues.QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:BS/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field; MS/MA is a plusProven experience as director of finance or a similar roleIn-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practicesSolid knowledge of financial analysis and forecastingKnowledge of using computerized accounting and financial management software An analytical mind with a strategic abilityExcellent organizational and leadership skillsAbility to analyze, compare, and interpret facts and figuresAbility to prepare complex, accurate financial statements and reportsOutstanding communication and interpersonal abilitiesCPA or other relevant qualification is a plus
