Finance/Business Manager, Town of Willington and Willington Board of Education (PreK-8)

The Town of Willington is seeking applicants for the position of Finance/Business Manager. This is as a department head level position and supports the financial functions of both the Town of Willington and the Willington Board of Education. This role reports to the First Selectman, with responsibilities to the First Selectman and the Superintendent of Schools.

The town is seeking a well-rounded professional with proven skills in multiple financial, business, and administrative capacities and functions. Public government and/or public educational accounting experience is required. The ideal candidate will possess a balance of technical accuracy, organization, and a positive, professional demeanor.

The Finance/Business Manager not only acts as the supervisor of the finance office team, but also connects the services of the finance office with appropriate partners such as the Board of Finance, Board of Selectmen. This role plays a key part in the annual budget making process and is expected to attend varying numbers of after-hours meetings, depending on the time of year to provide a resource to the public and committees.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license
  • Must be eligible for bonding in accordance with Connecticut State Statutes
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Public Administration from an accredited college or

university

  • Five (5) years of experience in school and/or municipal government accounting
  • Related and provable experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certification through GFOA of CT
  • Knowledge of the Infinite Visions municipal accounting system
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 085 School Business Manager certification from the State Department of Education

This is a non-union full-time non-remote forty (40) hour work week position with benefits. This position occasionally requires hours beyond the regular schedule, including evening Board and Commission meetings and other evening and weekend work as job duties demand.
