Job Title: Director of Financial Operations & Business Enterprises

Location: Mayville State University, Mayville, ND

Compensation: Full Salary Range: $75,302.43 - $105,423.40

Hiring Range: $75,302.43 - 90,362.92 to commensurate with level of experience. Candidates with education or qualifications beyond the minimum requirements may be considered for a salary above the hiring range.

Position Information

Summary:

Mayville State University is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Director for Financial Operations and Business Enterprises. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the university's financial health, shared services, and revenue-generating business units. The Director ensures that the institution's fiscal policies are robust and that auxiliary services such as the bookstore, dining services, and campus housing operate efficiently and in alignment with the university's mission and values, including Personal Service, Integrity, Collaboration, and Stewardship.

About the Position:

The Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the university's financial functions and business enterprises. This includes oversight of accounting, cash management, accounts receivable/payable, financial reporting, internal controls, and shared services. The Director ensures that all financial activities are accurate, timely, and compliant with state, federal, and NDUS policies.

The role also directs the operations of auxiliary and revenue-generating units, ensuring profitability, sustainability, and high-quality service to students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, contract management, vendor oversight, and operational performance monitoring.

The Director supervises Business Office and enterprise staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and Personal Service. The position collaborates closely with campus leadership and departments to support institutional planning, resource allocation, and operational decision-making.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Management: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including shared service operations, financial reporting, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Business Enterprises: Direct the operations of university business units and auxiliary services to ensure profitability and high-quality service to students, faculty, and staff.

Policy Oversight: Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard university assets.

Personnel Leadership: Manage and mentor staff within the Business Office and enterprise departments to foster a culture of Personal Service and support professional development.

Contract Management: Negotiate and manage contracts with external vendors and service providers. Develop and maintain a contract management database and calendar.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within higher education.

Advanced proficiency in financial software, Excel, Microsoft applications, AI tools, data analysis, and financial reporting.

Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with alumni, community members, and campus stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field.

CPA, CMA, CGFM, or similar professional certification.

Experience with auxiliary enterprise operations and contract management.

Familiarity with NDUS policies, state procurement rules, and governmental accounting standards.

Experience supervising teams in a higher-education or public-sector environment.
