Application Deadline - 5-17-26 Job Description The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is looking for an experienced and dynamic professional to serve as the Assistant Finance Director. This critical leadership role supports the Finance Director in managing all financial operations of the Department. The Assistant Finance Director will play a vital role in budget management, financial reporting, compliance, and strategic fiscal planning across UDAF's diverse programs and divisions. Key Responsibilities Assist the Finance Director in the development, preparation, and presentation of the Department's operating budget to the Commissioner, Governor's Office of Planning and Budget (GOPB), and the State Legislature. Oversee daily accounting operations, including coding maintenance, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and payroll coordination, ensuring adherence to GAAP and state fiscal policies. Prepare and analyze complex financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses for Department leadership and division directors to aid in strategic decision-making. Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, statutes, and grant requirements. Manage internal controls to ensure the department is in compliance with all laws, rules, and policies. Lead or assist in the management of financial systems implementation, upgrades, and optimization. Supervise, mentor, and train finance staff. Provide financial support and expertise to UDAF's various divisions. Qualifications Minimums Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, accounting, or budgeting, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity. Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards (GASB). Experience with state or governmental budgeting and financial reporting processes. Preferred Master's degree in a relevant field. Experience working with the state financial systems (e.g. Vantage, Concur).
