La technologie ELYSIS represente la plus grande avancee dans l'industrie de l'aluminium depuis 1886. Des efforts sont presentement deployes afin de perfectionner cette nouvelle facon revolutionnaire de produire de l'aluminium, qui elimine le dioxyde de carbone et toutes les autres emissions de gaz a effet de serre du procede conventionnel d'electrolyse.

Le procede ELYSIS elimine l'utilisation d'anodes de carbone, en les remplacant par des materiaux brevetes. En tant que premier procede industriel qui emet de l'oxygene comme sous-produit, il a le potentiel de transformer toute l'industrie.

En 2018, deux producteurs d'aluminium de calibre international, Alcoa et Rio Tinto, ont uni leurs forces afin de creer la coentreprise ELYSIS avec le gouvernement du Quebec. Beneficiant du soutien du gouvernement du Canada et d'Apple, la technologie progresse et elle est actuellement concue pour etre utilisee aussi bien dans des projets de construction que de modernisation d'alumineries.

ELYSIS a son siege social a Montreal, avec des centres de recherche et de developpement a Alma et a Jonquiere, au Quebec (Canada), ainsi qu'a New Kensington, en Pennsylvanie (Etats-Unis) et en France.

Du metal de qualite commerciale produit par ELYSIS dans nos installations R&D et au centre de developpement industriel est deja utilise par Apple dans un eventail de produits (comme le MacBook Pro 16 po et l'iPhone SE), par AB InBev (canettes) et par Audi (roues du e-tron GT, fabriques par le RONAL Group).

Ce poste sadresse a un professionnel aguerri des finances qui allie son expertise en comptabilite, jugement daffaires et capacites de leadership, et qui souhaite evoluer dans un contexte ou se croisent gouvernance, partenariats et transformation.

Comme Specialiste comptabilite et finance, vous serez responsable de coordonner les operations comptables dELYSIS tout en agissant comme partenaire de confiance aupres de la direction financiere, des comites de gouvernance et des partenaires de la coentreprise. Vous assurerez lintegrite de linformation financiere, la conformite aux normes comptables et aux controles internes, ainsi que la bonne execution des processus de fin de mois, de verification et de production des etats financiers.

Relevant du Directeur finances, strategie et competitivite, ce role combine leadership operationnel et contribution strategique. Principales activites et responsabilites

• Coordonner les operations comptables quotidiennes dELYSIS, en assurant lexactitude, lexhaustivite et la production en temps opportun de linformation financiere
• Piloter les activites de cloture mensuelle, les controles de bilan et la revue des conciliations de comptes
• Preparer les etats financiers annuels et coordonner les audits externes, en agissant comme point de contact principal avec les auditeurs
• Veiller au respect des controles internes, des politiques comptables et des exigences reglementaires externes, selon les normes US GAAP et/ou IFRS
• Soutenir les revues de performance mensuelles, les processus budgetaires et les presentations au comite dinvestissement au moyen danalyses financieres fiables
• Assister le directeur finances / chef des finances (CFO) dans les travaux lies a la strategie financiere, aux rapports au conseil dadministration et aux communications avec les partenaires ou investisseurs, au besoin
• Contribuer activement a la gouvernance financiere de la coentreprise, notamment pour les rapports aux partenaires, les enonces de travaux, les documents du comite des finances et le suivi des exigences liees aux flux de revenus
• Revoir les contrats en collaboration avec les equipes Approvisionnement et Juridique afin devaluer les impacts comptables, les positions financieres et les risques associes
• Assurer les echanges avec les partenaires concernant les positions comptables et leurs impacts financiers, dans un esprit de rigueur et de collaboration
• Participer aux initiatives de transformation de la fonction finance, incluant lautomatisation, lintegration des systemes et levolution vers des processus budgetaires et de reddition de comptes plus agiles
• Collaborer etroitement avec lequipe fiscale pour repondre aux demandes liees aux declarations, audits et analyses ponctuelles
• Contribuer a une culture de collaboration, de responsabilisation et damelioration continue au sein de la fonction finance

A propos de vous

• Un engagement ferme envers la sante et la securite
• Un titre de CPA (ou equivalent) et une solide maitrise des normes comptables et des controles financiers
• Une experience demontree en finances et comptabilite, incluant de lexperience en leadership
• Une expertise demontree en operations comptables, en information financiere, en audit et en gouvernance
• Experience avec un systeme ERP (Oracle ou equivalent) et une excellente maitrise dExcel et de la suite Office
• La capacite de transformer des enjeux comptables complexes en information claire et utile a la prise de decision
• Un confort a evoluer dans un environnement de coentreprise ou multipartite, avec des exigences elevees en matiere de gouvernance
• Un esprit analytique, oriente solutions, et lagilite necessaire pour gerer lambiguite et des priorites concurrentes
• De solides aptitudes en collaboration et en influence, avec la credibilite requise pour interagir efficacement a tous les niveaux

Un partenariat de classe mondiale sans precedent entre deux grands pionniers de l'industrie de l'aluminium Alcoa et Rio Tinto a donne lieu a la creation d'ELYSIS en 2018. Dans le cadre de cette coentreprise avec le gouvernement du Quebec, l'equipe travaille a developper la technologie en vue de sa commercialisation a grande echelle.

La technologie ELYSIS elimine toutes les emissions directes de gaz a effet de serre (GES) du procede d'electrolyse de l'aluminium. Il s'agit du premier procede industriel emettant de l'oxygene comme sous-produit.

ELYSIS procure egalement des avantages additionnels, en reduisant les couts d'exploitation des alumineries et en augmentant la production de metal par rapport aux cuves conventionnelles de meme taille.

A New Era for the Aluminium Industry ELYSIS

The ELYSIS technology is the greatest breakthrough in the aluminium industry since its beginnings in 1886. Work is underway now to further develop this revolutionary new way to produce aluminium, eliminating carbon dioxide and all other greenhouse gas emissions from the traditional smelting process.

The ELYSIS process eliminates the use of carbon anodes, replacing those with proprietary materials. It is the first industrial process that emits oxygen as its by-product and has the potential to transform an entire industry.

In 2018, two international aluminium producers, Alcoa and Rio Tinto, came together to form the ELYSIS joint venture with the provincial government of Quebec. With support from the Canadian Government and Apple, the technology is progressing and is currently being designed to support the construction of new smelters or retrofits.

ELYSIS is headquartered in Montreal, with Technology Research & Development locations in Alma, Quebec, (Canada), in Jonquiere, Quebec, (Canada), in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, (United States), and in France.

Commercial quality metal produced by ELYSIS during the ongoing R&D process is already being used by Apple in a variety of products (The 16-inch MacBook Pro and the iPhone SE); Ab InBEV (cans) and Audi (e-tron GT wheels produced by the RONAL Group).

About the role

This position is intended for a seasoned finance professional who combines accounting expertise, business judgment, and leadership capabilities, and who is eager to evolve in an environment where governance, partnerships, and transformation intersect.

As an Accounting and Finance Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating ELYSIS accounting operations while acting as a trusted partner to the finance leadership team, governance committees, and joint venture partners. You will ensure the integrity of financial information, compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, and the effective execution of month-end close processes, audits, and financial reporting.

Reporting to the Director, Finance, Strategy and Competitiveness, this role combines operational leadership with strategic contribution. Beyond core responsibilities, the long-term value of the role lies in your ability to strengthen financial governance, support organizational growth, and modernize financial processes as ELYSIS continues to expand.

Key Activities / Responsibilities:

• Coordinate ELYSIS day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information
• Lead month-end closing activities, balance sheet controls, and account reconciliation reviews
• Prepare annual financial statements and coordinate external audits, acting as the main point of contact with auditors
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and external regulatory requirements under US GAAP and/or IFRS
• Support monthly performance reviews, budgeting processes, and investment committee submissions through reliable financial analysis
• Assist the Director of Finance / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with financial strategy initiatives, board reporting, and communications with partners or investors as needed
• Actively contribute to joint venture financial governance, including partner reporting, statements of work, finance committee documentation, and revenue flow requirements tracking
• Review contracts in collaboration with Procurement and Legal teams to assess accounting implications, financial positioning, and associated risks
• Liaise with partners on accounting positions and their financial impacts, with a focus on rigor and collaboration
• Participate in finance transformation initiatives, including automation, systems integration, and the evolution toward more agile budgeting and reporting processes
• Work closely with the tax team to address filings, audits, and ad-hoc analysis requests
• Contribute to a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance function

About you

• A strong commitment to health and safety
• A CPA designation (or equivalent) and strong mastery of accounting standards and financial controls
• Proven experience in finance and accounting
• Demonstrated expertise in accounting operations, financial reporting, audit, and governance
• Experience with an ERP system (Oracle or equivalent) and advanced proficiency in Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
• The ability to translate complex accounting issues into clear, actionable insights for decision-making
• Comfort working in a joint venture or multi-stakeholder environment with high governance expectations
• A strong analytical mindset, solution-oriented approach, and agility in managing ambiguity and competing priorities
• Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, with the credibility to engage effectively at all levels
• Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken. Our organization is a global enterprise, and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.

An unprecedented world-class partnership of two major aluminium industry pioneers - Alcoa and Rio Tinto - led to the 2018 formation of ELYSIS. Through this joint venture with the government of Quebec, ELYSIS is working to scale up this technology so it can be fully commercialized.

The ELYSIS technology eliminates all direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the aluminium smelting process and is the first industrial process that emits oxygen as its by-product.

ELYSIS has demonstrated production of commercial purity aluminium for end users ranging from Apple to Audi and is being designed for the construction of new smelters or to retrofit existing ones.

The ELYSIS technology also brings additional advantages, reducing the operating cost of a smelter and boosting metal production from the same size-smelting cell.

ELYSIS is a Canadian based firm with its corporate headquarters in Montreal, Quebec. Its other Canadian locations include Alma, Quebec and Jonquiere, Quebec. It is at ELYSIS Alma, Quebec location where eliminating all direct greenhouse gases from aluminium smelting took a major step forward in June 2021 with the start of construction on the first commercial-scale prototype cells of ELYSIS inert anode technology, at Rio Tintos Alma, Quebec smelter. At ELYSIS Jonquiere, Quebec Location, ELYSIS is further developing this technology at its Research and Development Centre, located within Rio Tintos Complexe Jonquiere.
