About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

The Business Technician plays a critical role in managing the onboarding, offboarding, and ongoing systems access for contractors supporting FirstEnergy Transmission & Distribution projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a deep understanding of access management, compliance, and security requirements. The role ensures all contractor access remains compliant with FirstEnergy (FE), CIP, and FERC policies. In addition to access management, the Business Technician actively participates in testing and consulting on technical enhancements to FE onboarding and access systemsincluding Empower, FE Onboarding App, Power BI reports, Unifier, and other related applicationsto support successful enterprise-wide implementations. This position serves as a key point of contact and subject matter expert for contractor access, collaborating closely with IT, compliance, and operational teams across the organization. This position can be located at any of the FE major hubs Akron, Reading, Greensburg, Fairmont, Morristown/Holmdel, Erie or Toledo

Responsibilities Include:

  • Review contractor onboarding documentation for accuracy and compliance.

  • Independently utilize data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, Empower, and RAAD to verify 100% contractor onboarding compliance.

  • Analyze information from internal and external stakeholders to determine required logical, physical, and network access.

  • Collaborate with FE managers and internal teams to establish appropriate access levels for each contractor.

  • Coordinate with the FE IT Department to ensure laptops are built with correct programs and validated access.

  • Request and summarize physical and network access approvals for contractors.

  • Coordinate equipment delivery and provide contractors with clear instructions for use.

  • Track expired background checks and coordinate with vendors to obtain updated documentation.

  • Follow all internal security procedures related to contractor background checks and compliance.

  • Research, develop, and maintain Excel-based access templates to ensure consistent access aligned with contractor roles and job descriptions.

  • Update templates as system access requirements evolve.

  • Create new templates for newly identified contractor roles.

  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for contractor onboarding and offboarding processes.

  • Identify and document FE systems utilized by each contractor role.

  • Use QlikView and Excel (including pivot tables) to analyze contractor physical access levels.

  • Validate analysis results with leadership and update RAAD as needed to ensure compliance.

  • Review and validate required training completion using reports from Map My Learning, QlikView, and Excel.

  • Serve as an internal consultant during the development of FE applications such as CIMS, FERA, and Unifier.

  • Conduct extensive system testing to ensure functional accuracy and readiness before organizational rollout.

  • Act as the primary department responsible for developing and maintaining FIM roles across contractor classifications.

  • Review and approve requested access in a timely manner.

  • Analyze granted access to improve overall accuracy and effectiveness of access templates.

  • Lead contractor training sessions focused on accessing critical systems and accounts (e.g., TCA, SECVAULT).

  • Ensure all equipment and system access are functional prior to field deployment.

  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials and curriculum.

  • Monitor training completion to ensure all new contractors meet requirements before entering the fie

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelors degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related discipline is required with a minimum of 2 years related experience . Advanced degree a plus. In lieu of a degree, 5 years of related experience is required . Relevant work experience including financial analysis, accounting, and financial reporting required . The experience must include a general understanding of the subject matter.

  • High Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Word

  • Strong analytical and data validation skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent organization and documentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

  • Proven ability to manage sensitive access and compliance-related information.

  • Experience serving as a subject matter expert for technical systems and access processes.

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $61,625- $96,600. The pay range for certain locations, including the state of New Jersey, include a 20% differential to account for an increased cost of living, making the pay range $73,950 - $115,920.
