Job Summary
We are seeking a Tax Director for a direct hire leadership opportunity in Cordova, TN. This role is ideal for an experienced CPA or EA who is ready to move beyond traditional tax preparation and take ownership of building, leading, and modernizing a growing tax division.
As the Tax Director, you will play a highly visible role in shaping tax operations, improving systems, enhancing client service, and developing proactive tax strategies for high-net-worth individuals and business owners. Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations of the tax department, including workflow management, quality standards, and team coordination.
- Review tax returns and ensure accuracy, compliance, timeliness, and strong client service outcomes.
- Partner with advisors to create proactive tax planning strategies for business owners, high-income clients, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Improve tax processes, technology platforms, turnaround times, and overall operational efficiency.
- Manage internal staff, vendors, and outsourced preparation teams to support scalable department growth.
- Help build a modern, growth-focused tax division with strong systems, accountability, and client experience standards.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $90,000 to $115,000 per year.
- Bonus and revenue incentive potential.
- Employment Type: Direct Hire.
- Schedule: Full-time.
- Work Arrangement: In-office during tax season with hybrid flexibility outside of peak season.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Lead tax department operations, workflow improvements, and technology modernization initiatives.
- Review and sign tax returns while maintaining quality, compliance, and client service standards.
- Develop proactive tax strategies in partnership with advisors for business owners and high-income clients.
- Build and scale a tax function through process improvement, leadership, and operational execution.
- Active CPA or EA license in Tennessee is required.
- 5+ years of tax experience, including experience with business-owner taxation.
- Experience reviewing and signing tax returns.
- Strong understanding of tax compliance, tax planning, and client advisory support.
- Comfortable implementing tax technology, workflow systems, and process improvements.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to improve operations and support department growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving high-net-worth individuals, business owners, or high-income clients.
- Prior experience managing vendors, outsourced tax preparation resources, or internal tax staff.
- Background in a growing advisory, financial services, accounting, or professional services environment.
- Demonstrated success improving tax workflows, turnaround times, client experience, or department scalability.
