Manage assigned institutional compliance functions to ensure university compliance with a variety of state and federal regulations, grant requirements, ethics guidelines, etc.

Department Summary

The Office of Sponsored Programs & Research Administration (OSPRA) supports faculty, staff, and students in the acquisition and administration of externally funded projects and programs, the ethical conduct of research, and the development of internal and external research collaborations to advance the mission of the University. OSPRAs central vision is to significantly grow the portfolio of externally funded grants and contracts for Valdosta State University. This will be achieved by partnering with our creative and dynamic faculty as well as community partners and other institutions of higher learning. The overarching goal is to support faculty so they can expand their research portfolio, and all undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students can engage in a meaningful research experience mentored by our faculty.

Typical Allocation of Duties :

Provide guidance - 20%
Conduct investigations, audits, and/or research to ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and/or accreditation-related guidelines.

Advocate - 20%
Advocate for the achievement and documentation of institutional best practices in compliance-related subject matter areas.

Develop policies and procedures - 20%
Assist in the development of institutional policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Collaborate with others - 20%
Collaborate with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to help ensure institutional compliance.

Prepare reports - 20%
Prepare a variety of regular and special reports documenting university compliance.

Supervisor Expectations :

  • Serve as the first point of contact for principal investigators (PIs) and researchers (faculty, staff, and students) for assistance with the administrative management of sponsored programs.
  • Support PIs by reviewing expenditures for compliance, resolve account issues, meet with PIs regularly to monitor and review grant awards, facilitate effort reporting and certifications, prepare projections for awards, work to resolve errors, request extensions, and assist in closing out the grant at its expiration.
  • Review, reconcile, and project award finances, preparing adjustments and corrections to award budgets, ensure all financial requirements of the award have been met by the end of the award.
  • Liaison between the PI and Financial Services, Human Resources, Payroll, Restricted Funds Accountant, Procurement, and other post-award campus partners.
  • Analyze processes to improve workflow, find efficiencies to avoid repetition of errors, implement improved faculty satisfaction of the grants management, and provide formal and informal training opportunities.
  • Stay current with all new and existing regulatory requirements and institutional policies/procedures and keep PIs, faculty, and department leaders informed of changes.

    Required Experience
    Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of related work experience.
