T E C Industrial is seeking an Assistant Controller to partner with the Controller and help lead day-to-day accounting operations. The Assistant Controller partners with the Controller to support the financial health of T E C Industrial. This role helps lead the month-end and year-end close, maintain accurate financial records, strengthen internal controls, support budgeting and forecasting, and ensure reporting is timely, accurate, and aligned with GAAP.

Principal Responsibilities

Partner with the Controller to help lead accounting operations, support an efficient close process, strengthen internal controls, and deliver accurate financial reporting across the business.

Key Functions

Help drive the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and account analysis.

Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports with a high level of accuracy and completeness.

Oversee general ledger activity and review reconciliations to ensure issues are identified and resolved promptly.

Support oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management activities.

Monitor construction accounting activities, including job cost reporting, WIP analysis, and project profitability review.

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support operational and financial decisions.

Help develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and well-organized financial records.

Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and increase reporting efficiency.

Additional Responsibilities

Review monthly WIP schedules and support revenue recognition and project margin analysis.

Coordinate fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and reconciliations.

Support internal, external, tax, and benefit plan audits by preparing schedules and responding to requests.

Assist with contractor licensing, sales and use tax support, and other regulatory filings as needed.

Provide backup support for billing, payroll, treasury, and other accounting functions during peak periods or absences.

Partner with operations and project teams to resolve financial issues and improve reporting accuracy.

Reporting & Forecasting

Support the timely preparation and issuance of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.

Prepare budget-to-actual reporting, forecast updates, and trend analyses for management review.

Support consolidation, system reporting, and monthly data input for corporate financial reporting platforms.

Analyze financial results, investigate significant variances, and communicate findings to leadership.

Lead or support special projects involving accounting systems, process improvements, integrations, or reporting enhancements.

Compliance

Coordinate audit support and provide requested schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for internal and external reviews.

Help ensure compliance with GAAP, company policy, and applicable local, state, and federal reporting requirements.

Maintain and enforce strong internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures.

Support timely reporting for corporate, lender, tax, and other external requirements, as directed.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with financial reporting and close processes.

Experience in construction, industrial services, or project-based accounting environments preferred.

Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and internal controls.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems; Timberline (Sage) experience preferred.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize deadlines, communicate effectively across departments, and support or mentor accounting team members in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Report to the corporate office on time as scheduled; this is an on-site role (Remote work is not an option).

Follow all company and site safety rules and standards.

Understand and follow instructions from the direct supervisor.

This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions are sedentary but may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 20 pounds; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger and motor dexterity. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, fax machines, phones, and filing cabinets. The employee must be able to transport necessary equipment and supplies and set up for meetings, as needed. The employee must have a current drivers license and the ability to travel to various locations at times for various reasons.

Must be capable of operating a standard 1/2-ton pickup for occasional delivery and pick-up of materials and personnel and hold a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle operators license issued by the state of residence. Must also have the manual dexterity necessary to operate a standard desktop computer keyboard.
