Position: Controller
Position Summary:
The Senior Vice President, Controller serves as the senior accounting executive of the company and a key member of the finance leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role has enterprise-wide responsibility for the integrity, transparency, and discipline of the companys accounting and financial reporting functions.
As the principal accounting leader of the organization, the Controller will lead and oversee all accounting operations including financial reporting, technical accounting, tax oversight, audit management, internal controls, and oversight of key third-party financial service providers across a multi-state communications enterprise. This executive will play a central role in ensuring the companys financial infrastructure supports operational scale, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth.
The Controller will lead and develop a sophisticated accounting organization while ensuring compliance with US GAAP, regulatory requirements, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control standards. This role requires a seasoned executive capable of operating at both a strategic and operational level while serving as the CFOs principal partner in ensuring the integrity, discipline, and scalability of the companys financial reporting and accounting infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead all corporate accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
Direct the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes
Oversee preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements
Ensure compliance with US GAAP, tax regulations, and internal accounting policies
Serve as the companys technical accounting authority for complex or non-routine transactions
Act as primary liaison with external auditors and manage the annual audit process
Oversee corporate tax compliance and external tax advisors
Maintain and continually enhance the companys internal control framework, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and documentation
Lead and develop a senior accounting leadership team across multiple functional areas
Institutionalize accounting policies, procedures and documentation to reduce key-person dependency
Partner with the CFO and finance leadership to strengthen financial governance
Support enterprise initiatives including ERP enhancements and system implementations
Support strategic initiatives, including process improvements, system implementations and process transformation, including advanced automation and analytical technologies
Support M&A diligence, transaction accounting and post-acquisition integration
Provide accounting leadership for complex business initiatives and cross-functional financial decisions
Qualifications:
20+ years progressive accounting experience, including senior leadership responsibility
5+ years recent experience as a Controller, CAO, or equivalent senior accounting leadership role
Active CPA license required
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
Experience managing accounting organizations of 20+ professionals strongly preferred
Big 4 public accounting background strongly preferred
Deep technical experience in US GAAP and complex accounting matters
Demonstrated leadership of enterprise financial reporting, tax oversight, and internal controls
Expertise leading large accounting organizations in complex, multi-entity or multi-state environments
Experience operating within complex, or infrastructure-intensive industries strongly preferred
Strong financial systems experience; Oracle ERP experience preferred
Experience interacting with executive leadership, auditors preferred
