Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) is seeking a Financial Reporting Specialist to compile data for and assist in financial reporting requirements for the State.

Job duties for this position include:

  • Prepare capital asset information to be included in the States Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Serve as a statewide functional expert in the areas of capital asset reporting and accounts receivable management.
  • Reconcile capital assets reported in the states General Ledger to the Asset Management module to ensure capital assets are recorded completely and accurately.
  • Reconcile deposit activity reported in the General Ledger to the Accounts Receivable module; analyze and research discrepancies, and recommended corrections or process improvements to ensure accuracy
  • Collaborate to develop and maintain statewide training on capital asset reporting and accounts receivable.
  • Review, update, and maintain policies, procedures, and related documentation to improve efficiency.
  • Work with complex spreadsheets and databases to collect, analyze, and organize information for accurate and timely reporting.

Telework options for this position are dependent on where the employee lives. With approval, employees that live within 50 miles from the primary work location may telework up to 50%. Employees that live 50 miles or more from the primary location and live in Minnesota may telework more than 50% with approval.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience must include:

  • Three (3) years of experience* using or querying a complex accounting system, including compiling data and running reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present financial data and reports in a professional, timely, and effective manner.
  • Strong skills in designing, analyzing and organizing complex spreadsheets and databases.
  • Analytical and organizational skills to identify issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Communication skills sufficient to provide clear, respectful, and timely information to a variety of audiences regarding financial data.
  • Communication skills sufficient to establish effective working relationships and clearly document policies, procedures, and related information.
  • Demonstrated respect for diversity and a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

*A bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

  • A bachelors degree (or higher) in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and processes in one or more of the following:
    • Governmental Financial Reporting
    • General Ledger
    • Capital Assets
    • Accounts Receivable
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and/or SWIFT
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel (such as pivot tables, complex formulas, or data validation) and experience working with large datasets.
  • Experience improving or documenting financial processes, workflows, or internal controls.
