L/S Equity Analyst - Energy

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Energy focused analyst to join its investment team with dedicated coverage across the Energy sector. The successful candidate will play a critical role in generating differentiated investment ideas through rigorous fundamental analysis, supporting portfolio construction, and contributing to overall fund performance. Key Responsibilities: Conduct deep-dive fundamental research on public energy companies across subsectors (E&P, services, midstream, refining, and/or energy transition) to identify alpha-generating opportunities Build and maintain detailed financial models (earnings, cash flow, NAV, and scenario analysis) to inform investment decisions Develop investment theses and present recommendations (long/short) to the portfolio manager and investment committee Monitor existing portfolio holdings, including earnings updates, industry developments, and changes to key valuation drivers Analyze commodity markets (oil, gas, power) and incorporate macro, supply/demand, and geopolitical insights into investment views Conduct channel checks, expert calls, and meetings with company management teams to develop differentiated perspectives Collaborate with senior investors on portfolio construction, risk management, and position sizing Produce high-quality written research reports and clearly articulate investment views internally Qualifications: 4-6+ years of relevant experience in equity research, investment banking, or buyside investing with a focus on energy Strong financial modeling and valuation skills, with experience analyzing complex capital structures and cyclical businesses Demonstrated interest in energy markets, including commodities, infrastructure, and/or energy transition themes Proven ability to synthesize large amounts of information into clear, actionable investment insights Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to defend investment ideas High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and a collaborative mindset Proficiency in Excel; experience with Python or data analysis tools is a plus
