Summary:
To assist and support the Executive Director of Finance in the successful oversight and operation of the departmental function of payroll processing, ensuring that pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the area of accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field, or licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Proficient with payroll software, along with skills in MS Excel (managing spreadsheets, creating charts, and using advanced formulas) and Google applications.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and their application to a variety of accounting transactions.
- Work as a team member.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to problem solve issues as they apply to payroll.
- Ability to work closely with payroll vendors to provide accurate information for deduction processing.
- Five years of experience in payroll processing required, with two years in a supervisory or management role preferred.
- Ability to prioritize time-sensitive work.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the philosophy, mission, leadership needs, and planning requirements of the division.
- Ability to maintain confidential records
Essential Duties:
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with division policy.
- Interviews, hires, and trains new payroll staff.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department as it relates to payroll.
- Oversees procedures and processes and manages inquiries and requests related to the preparation and distribution of payroll.
- Processes payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Ensures timely payments to payroll vendors.
- Prepares reconciliations of payroll reports for both internal and external use.
- Prepares state and federal reports.
- Maintains or oversees the maintenance of employee records.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Identifies and recommends updates to payroll software, systems, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay Rate:
The salary range is $87,370-$147,402
Contract:
Full time / 12 months / 245 days
Start Date:
This position is effective for the 2024-2025 school year. Applicants for the 2025-2026 school year will also be considered.
