GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Income Tax Administrator, this position: receives, audits, and records income tax returns and payments; researches accounts; prepares reports, bank deposits, correspondence, and notices; and assists taxpayers with questions regarding their municipal taxes.

Hourly rate is $19.00 - $21.00 depending on experience.

General Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

50% (1) Receive payments and tax returns. Audit, post, and process returns. Maintain individual taxpayer files. Research existing delinquent accounts and potential new accounts and prepare appropriate correspondence and notices. Assist in the preparation of daily bank deposit.

30% (2) Assist in receiving payments, posting to appropriate accounts, and preparing daily bank deposits. Assist in answering telephones and directing calls to appropriate tax personnel. Perform typing, filing, and processing mailings, as needed. Perform daily backup and coordination of CMI computer system and server used by Income Tax Department and other Departments; work with IT and/or software vendors to troubleshoot problems encountered and enter program changes as necessary.

15% (3) Answer questions regarding income tax and assist citizens with tax preparation on request.

(4) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

5% (5) Performs other job related duties as necessary.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:
Completion of Associate degree in Accounting or Business, and one (1) years' relevant work experience. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business; experience with municipal income tax software.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (*indicates may be developed after employment)
*Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification through American Red Cross (or equivalent), per City policy.

Personal computer (including software/applications), miscellaneous office equipment.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); works in conditions requiring long periods of sitting and computer work that may cause problems and/or irritate back, neck, and wrists; employee is often required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls and to reach with hands and arms; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work. Work is performed primarily in an office setting.

In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs, may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.

Skill in: computer operation (including software/applications such as Microsoft Office, FinQ, etc.); typing 30+wpm; use of modern office equipment; interpersonal communication; organization and time management; spelling, grammar, and mathematics.

Ability to: read, analyze. and understand various directives and regulations, and assemble related data; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; apply principles to solve practical problems; deal with variety of variables in familiar context; add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals, and percentages; communicate effectively, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, coworkers, department heads, officials, and general public; prepare complex reports; travel to and gain access to work site.
