Reporting to the Executive Director for Administration, the Director of Finance serves as the department's senior liaison to the division regarding student affairs business operations. The Director of Finance serves as a member of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs team and supports the Executive Director for Administration in the coordinating the administrative operations for the Division of Student Affairs, comprised of a community of approximately 500 professional and student employees who steward fiscal resources of $90 million and approximately 1,000,000 square feet in facilities to support student success. The Director will serve as a deputy to the Executive Director for Administration and will serve the division in their absence.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Director of Finance is a critical position within the Division of Student Affairs, responsible for the comprehensive management of all financial activities that directly support the division's mission and strategic objectives. This role ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial transactions, budget planning, and fiscal reporting, providing essential oversight that safeguards the division's resources and promotes operational efficiency. By maintaining rigorous compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements, the Director of Finance mitigates financial risk and supports informed decision-making at all levels. The position's expertise in financial analysis and process improvement is vital for sustaining high-quality services and programs that enrich student life and advance institutional goals.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related business area or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum of five years demonstrated success leading and organizing complex and confidential budget actions in a higher education administrative setting.
- Strong proficiency in university budgeting processes, policies and technological solutions.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and stakeholders in a culturally diverse environment.
- Strong knowledge of higher education administrative operations.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field.
- Seven years of experience leading and organizing complex and confidential budget actions in a higher education administrative setting.
- Intermediate Proficiency with Banner 9, Aggie Mart (Jaggaer), and Emburse Enterprise (Chrome River).
- Strong capabilities and experience in managing cross-functional projects.
- Understanding of a midsize, doctoral, land-grant, research university.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, develop and manage professional staff.
- Prior experience processing and managing internal and external financial resources (e.g., state, non-state, gifts, federal grants, etc.)
