Position: Financial Controller
Reports To: Executive Leadership
Overview
A growing project-based contracting organization is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and project financial performance. This individual will work closely with leadership and operational teams to improve reporting accuracy, strengthen internal processes, and support strategic decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Lead monthly close and financial reporting activities
Oversee core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
Prepare financial statements and management reports
Monitor project financial performance, including forecasting, budgeting, and profitability analysis
Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure data integrity across financial systems
Assist with year-end activities, audits, and external financial reviews
Project Support & Analysis
Collaborate with project and operations teams to review project costs, billing, and financial performance
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis efforts
Provide reporting and recommendations to improve operational efficiency and margins
Assist with contract administration and financial risk review when needed
Cash Flow & Planning
Monitor company cash flow and working capital needs
Support leadership with forecasting and financial planning
Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
Contribute to long-term financial and operational planning initiatives
Team Leadership
Supervise and support accounting staff
Help establish effective procedures, accountability, and workflow processes
Promote collaboration between finance and operational departments
Participate in management discussions and organizational planning
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax requirements, and industry standards
Support audit preparation and maintain internal financial controls
Assist with insurance, licensing, and other administrative financial requirements
Qualifications
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
Several years of accounting or finance leadership experience within a project-based or construction-related industry
Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting
Experience with ERP/accounting software systems
Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and leadership teams
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
